Snow White and Rose RedSnow White and Rose Red

It’s a long time since we have given you a Brothers Grimm story. We had somehow overlooked this charming tale. The “Snow White” of the title is not related to the more famous Snow White who met the seven dwarfs. This Snow White is the sister of Rose Red. The two girls live in the forest and get on well with the animals who live there, including a big playful bear. They also meet a rather bad-tempered dwarf.

Hansel and Gretel with Music from the OperaHansel and Gretel with Music from the Opera

The opera of Hansel and Gretel by the German composer, Englebert Humperdinck (1854 -1921) is traditionally performed at Christmas. The celebration of sweets and food makes a seasonal delight. Or course, if you know the story, you will realise that the section with the witch is spooky enough to listen to at Halloween too.

Music by Englebert Humperdinck, played arranged and produced for Storynory by Joe Davison of Auburn Jam. Additional instruments (flute, oboe, ukulele) by Nikki Davison.
